Mountain Unicycling (Muni) [스포츠토토]

Mountain unicycling
Mountain unicycling, better known in its abbreviated form muni, is an adventure sport in which riders use unicycles to race through off-road mountain terrains. Muni is an extreme sport which requires extensive training and practice.

Muni races are not as fast as mountain biking races, but require higher skills, strength and balance. Specially designed unicycles are used, with high-grip pedals, large tires, and rugged frames. Some unicycles also have rim or disc brakes, with brake lever mounted under the saddle, which is mostly used during downhill rides. 스포츠토토

Muni races are conducted on natural terrains, with several obstacles, similar to courses used for mountain biking races. Riders wear helmets, pads and all other protective gears typically used for mountain biking. There are three major codes of muni races, Cross-country, Uphill
and Downhill.

The format of races is similar to mountain biking races, where a group of riders simultaneously race around the course, and the winner is the rider to cross the finish line first.

Unicon Championships is the major international event held for the sport, which features several mountain unicycling races for all three codes. There are regional competitions like California Mountain Unicycle Weekend in the United States, British Muni Weekend in the UK, UniNats in Australia, and Elsbet in Switzerland.

Mountain Unicycling Rules and Regulations

Mountain unicycling has a set of rules and regulations designed to ensure safety of the rider and fairness in competition.
Here are the important rules:

Riders are required to wear thick gloves at all times, open-fingered gloves are allowed.
Riders are required to wear helmets that meet specific safety requirements.
Riders must wear shoes at all times, no open-toed shoes or sandals are allowed.
Riders may overtake one another granted there is a large amount of space for passing, if there is not enough space it is deemed an illegal overtake and a penalty is assessed.
If a rider crosses the starting line before the start signal is given, it is considered a false start.
Races are generally between 100 meters and 800 meters in length, although relay races may be longer.
Dismounting the unicycle is not allowed during the race, except for 800 meter races or longer relay races.

History
In 1990, the mountain unicycle club was organised by Thierry Bouche in Southern France. The club was formed with the affiliation of the French cycling organisation with more than 50 registered members. This club was called MTT sensation.

In the year 1994, Duncan Castling designed the first-ever mountain unicycle for Pashley and named it Muni. Since then, Muni has been regarded as the trademark of the Pashley Cycle Company situated in England.

In the same year of 1994, Duncan castling, along with Simon Schofield participated in the Polaris challenge on a unicycle. This ferocious act made them an instant hit and inspired many other players for unicycling.

The club used 20" unicycle which has long seats in the upward direction. The credit of US mountain unicycling growth is given to George Peck. One of the major unicycle events is organised annually in the UK under the name of the British Muni Weekend (BMW).

In 2007, the first Colorado Munifest was organised by the Colorado Muni.
